Deputy Minister attends Rio Oil and Gas
Norway´s Deputy Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Ingvil Smines Tybring-Gjedde is in Rio for the Rio Oil and Gas expo.
This is the 18th edition of the exhibition and although the event is smaller this year, companies from 10 different countries are present, and the event is still considered Latin-America´s leading event of its kind.
On October 25, 2016, Deputy Minister Ingvil Smines Tybring-Gjedde (in the photo) formally opened the Norwegian pavilion at Rio Oil and Gas 2016. 16 Norwegian companies are represented at the pavilion, but several other companies are present at the expo with their own stands.
«The current situation is challenging, but despite this, I feel confident about the successful, long-term future for the oil and gas industry. The world still requires enormous amounts of energy. For this industry, challenges can also represent opportunities. I was pleased to see a considerable number of Brazilians in Stavanger during the ONS. This week we have another great opportunity to learn more about world leading competence. Rio Oil and Gas is an ideal place to build partnerships. The Norwegian supply and service industry is in high demand globally and Brazil is one of the largest markets for Norwegian suppliers. What happens in the oil and gas sector in Brazil is not only important for the prosperity of Brazil, but also for families and communities in Norway. Our countries share many of the same challenges in the oil and gas sector, and we both see technology and innovation as a key approach to solve these challenges, and that is why cooperation is of great, mutual benefit. Together we should aim to develop tomorrow´s technology», she said.
The director of Innovation Norway in Brazil, Stein-Gunnar Bondevik, emphasized the importance of standing together in challenging times.
«This is invaluable, especially to smaller and medium sized companies, and let us keep this in mind in the future, as companies but also as an oil and energy nation», he said during the cocktail reception that followed the opening ceremony.
Companies represented at the Norwegian pavilion cover a wide range of services and products. Marine Aluminum delivers aluminum products to the offshore industry. Light Structures supplies monitoring systems, and Jets makes sanitary systems. The subsea cluster GCE Subsea was also present.
Also among the companies are NBCC members like PGS, Wilhelmsen, StormGeo, M&O Partners, Ulstein and Jotun.
Representatives from the companies got the chance to meet the Deputy Minister face to face and talk to her about perspectives, expectations and experiences in the current challenging Brazilian market.
The Deputy Minister also visited the stands of Kongsberg Maritime, DNV GL and Aker Solutions.
Also present at Rio Oil and Gas 2016 are Rystad Energy and Norsafe. Companies like Statoil, Rystad, FMC Technologies and DNV GL also participated in plenary sessions and technical sessions during the event.
During her three day stay in Rio de Janeiro, Deputy Minister Tybring-Gjedde also met with the presidents of Finep and BNDES and met with other stakeholders of great importance to the bilateral relations between Norway and Brazil.
